Well, just under a month and a half to go before the 3rd annual Hinson Lake 24 Hour Ultra Classic!!! 67 entries so
far to include 40 first timers to the course. (VIRGINS)
Everything is going right on schedule and I do not anticipate any snags. This year I do have the lodge reserved so
that should help especially with parking. We are allowed to park on the lodge side this year..........so if you are going to
make a serious attempt at some high mileage then you should park on the lodge side.
I did manage to make my first night run on the course yesterday. Just to give you an idea of how runable the course
is here is an example of lap times. First 2 laps (some day light) running very easy lap times were 11 minute pace. next 2
laps right at dusk/ dark were run at 11 to 11:30 pace. Last 2 laps in complete darkness with no light (Only because I
heard that Big Foot was reported as dead) run at 12:30 to 13 minute pace. I ran walked the next lap in 17 minutes and
walked the entire last lap in 26 minutes. So even if you walked the entire 24 hours at a regular pace you can still cover
24 laps comfortably for 36.48 miles.......Easy right???????
Once again we have some very talented runners showing up as well as first timers who have never ran any kind of
race. You all will be treated as if you are the most important runner out there. I hope that the purpose of a unique event
like this is to just see what you can do as an individual in 24 hours (wether its 130 miles or 1.52 miles) and maybe come
back a year later and try to run at least 1 more lap. Most people come away from a run like this running or walking more
miles than they ever have and that's great!!!!
There will be some kind of award for the state compettition this year. The rules are simple. Whatever state has the
most mileage combined for the top 3 runners win. Simple as that. I hope that South Carolina will do better this year even
though I'm secretly rooting for North Carolina. OOPS!!!! Secrets out.
